If you eat it, do you need to be able to kill it?
Everyone involved in poultry keeping will have to deal with the death of their birds at some time. This may be the emergency killing of injured or sick birds to stop the spread of disease, the slaughter of birds for consumption or any other reason such as:
- A chicken stops laying eggs
- A chicken takes to the habit of eating eggs
- A chicken is not accepted into the flock
- When celebrating a special occasion
The Training workshop is split into two parts. The first covers the various methods employed across the industry, as well as the ethical issues concerned and the most humane ways of killing. The second part is a practical, hands-on training. It is designed as a CPR course to guide you through a method which is found quick and humane for killing on a small scale.
