The Co-Coop initiative is about encouraging neighbours to share the responsibilities and produce of their chickens. Because the social aspect is an important element of sustainability.
Urban life-styles can be very demanding, busy schedules might seem too full to attend whole flock and land in urban environments in scarce.
Therefore, Hatching Networks promotes and offers you practical tools, to help you share chickens with your neighbours.
This will save you time, space and solve those problems with going on holiday without a carer for your chickens. There is also the added benefit of getting to know your neighbours. By creating social collaboration over the production of our food, Hatching Networks helps grow stronger communities.
Co-Coops are site-specific, each designed by it’s own members for their specific needs, relationships and physical space. However, they can usually be grouped into Balcony, Back Garden or Community Co-Coops. The Co-Coop Build workshop will aid you in designing, making and building a site-specific coop to fit around the Co-Coop members’ and site needs. You can find out more information about this workshop here.
Once you and your neighbours have agreed to collaborate, it is recommended to set the terms and responsibilities, prior to setting up the Co-Coop. You could draw up your own agreement according to your needs, or use the sample Shared Ownership Agreement available here.
* Disclaimer: The farm will not be held responsible for any dispute over shared ownership. However, disputed teams are welcome to attend our Peace Keeping sessions, as part of the Co-Coop Keeping workshop.
